About

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have cancelled all planned events. We'll look to start these up once it's safe to do so. In the meantime, please look after yourselves, and take a look at our website and social media channels on how else you can stay involved in BS3 and engaged with the climate crisis and its solutions.

Our History

BEG began in 2010, as Bedminster Energy Group. It was set up by a group of volunteers involved in environmental schemes, from rescuing and caring for unused patches of land to supporting the annual Best of Bedminster show. BEG started by promoting things that local people can do in their homes to reduce their bills and keep the heat in during the winter.

Since 2010, although the group of volunteers has changed, and the name changed to BS3 Energy Group , our mission has stayed more or less the same! We're still a group of passionate volunteers looking to help BS3 residents reduce energy bills and act on climate change!

We’re part of Bristol Energy Network, an umbrella-organisation bringing together community energy groups from around Bristol to pool resources and share ideas.

The group

We are a group of volunteers. Some of us have specific expertise in energy efficiency/renewable energy, but mostly we're just keen to share solutions to the climate crisis through community action!

As a Community Interest Company, we have a Board of Directors of 5 people who were appointed in 2019. They are:

  • Charlie Bolton
  • Sarah Burns
  • Katherine Piper
  • Karn Shah
  • Jonathan Weinman

Thanks to some funding we won in 2019 from the Megawatt Fund, we do currently have one paid part-time co-ordinator - Ceilidh Jackson-Baker. Ceilidh will be supporting us until summer 2020 in building better connections with other groups in BS3, organising events and developing projects.

The paid role is only for 1 day/week, and we need volunteers now more than ever to help us run our exciting programme of events and develop projects that can help address climate change and fuel poverty in BS3!

Want to get involved?

As a group, we meet on the first Tuesday of every month to talk about planned events and projects - please get in touch if you’d like to come and find out more about us and how you can get involved! You can also come speak to our volunteers at one of our events.
